10:11 AM Linda Bannon opened the meeting and led the members in the flag salute. Dr. Alan Burke (Executive Director) Dr. Burke reminded us that the retirement seminar is this evening at 5:00 PM. There are 2,200 educators registered. Hopefully, this will result in new members. This year’s annual convention will be October 3-6 in Pasco, WA. He reported the following legislative issues: We need to keep our Medicare Eligible Healthcare Benefit stable at $183.00 per month.Make the actuarially recommended pension payment. Mina Milligan mentioned that the republicans are sponsoring a bill to merge pension funds for the Teachers Retirement System Plan 1 and Law Enforcement Officers & Fire Fighters Plan 1. Currently, TRS 1 is underfunded and LEOFF 1 (Law Enforcement Officers & Fire Fighters) is overfunded. Dr. Burke explained the big difference between the two groups.
