Kathy Person filled in for Fran Person who could not attend due to sickness. Irma Slocum, long time member, was given a warm greeting. Program: The Battle Ground High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble, ranging from freshmen to seniors, entertained us with twelve original and enchanting Christmas songs. Pat Jollota, Outstanding Leader in Clark County
Patricia “Pat” Jollota has modeled admirable citizenship through her actions and service to the Clark County community, including effectiveness in leadership roles, raising community standards and expectations, strengthening community identity and civic pride, and exemplary giving of time, self and resources. Curator for the Clark County Historical Museum, Vancouver City council member for 20 years, Clark County’s First Citizen for 2012, Author of over 8 books, Historian and Community advocate are some of Jollota’s many contributions. Jollota also helped to establish, and regularly supports, the Children’s Justice Center and Justice for Children—organizations committed to protecting children who are victims of abuse and increasing local awareness of child abuse. She also supports the Humane Society for Southwest Washington and served as the Clark County Animal Control Board’s chair. Communication Paves the Way
2019 WSSRA Annual Convention The 72nd WSSRA Convention was held at the Yakima Convention Center June 3 -5, 2019. It was an amazing opportunity to learn from those who have created exceptional programs in their local communities. The convention began on Monday afternoon with breakout sessions focusing on community service, website development, communications/social media, and programs designed to attract and maintain the memberships of plan 2 and 3 retirees. Attendees could choose two of the four sessions to attend. On Tuesday, the convention began with the Delegate Assembly. This was the time that members reviewed WSSRA operations and policies and made major governance changes. National Teacher of the Year Mandy Manning, from Spokane, spoke to the audience about current K-12 topics and concerns.
