A BIT OF HISTORY
Held and managed by the Community Fund of South Puget Sound, our Endowment Fund was established in 1997 with an initial investment of $6,648.75. Approved unanimously by the TCSRA membership at a luncheon meeting, the fund was to be used “to benefit Thurston County schools, teachers, and students.”
That first year, 1997, the interest on the investment allowed us to give $100 mini-grants to 3 of the 15 applicants. Over the years, the investment has grown with the help of donations and fund-raisers at luncheons. A generous bequest from the estate of Lucille Messer in 2008 increased the amount of money in the spendable portion of the endowment and the number of grants we have been able to award.
