Membership in Walla Walla/Columbia School Retirees, Unit 31.
There are nine School districts located in the Walla Walla/Columbia, Unit 31 area. They are: Walla Walla, College Place, Columbia Burbank, Dayton, Waitsburg, Prescott, Dixie, Starbuck and Touchet. Anyone who is employed, or retired from a public school district is eligible to become a member Washington State School Retirees Association (WSSRA).
Membership benefits include:
• The Journal, which is the WSSRA state-wide publication containing up-to-date information regarding retirement issues.
• Dedicated volunteer committee members who travel to Olympia to meet with our elected officials.
• Lobbyists, employed by WSSRA, who represent us in Olympia.
• Monthly luncheon meetings (September through May) offering informative programs and camaraderie with fellow retirees.
• Opportunities for community service.
Thanks to the efforts at our local and state level, all retirees have received a COLA this year. Therefore, if you have any friends who retired with Plan 1 benefits, who have not joined WSSRA, this is a great time to remind them that their monthly benefits have increased and suggest they consider membership. Our group continues to work to protect and enhance the school retirement systems for retirees and future retirees.
There are two levels of membership:
• Active Members who are still employed in K12 public education, and
• Retired Members, who are retired from work in public school education.
If you are not a member, consider joining now. Dues are $7.00 monthly, and can be deducted by either a school district or the department of retirement services.
